This past weekend's California Democratic Convention was packed with events and activity. The election of new party officers includes John Burton as our party's new chair. The delegates also had a chance to endorse the May 19th ballot issues. Much like with our organization, it was difficult for the state party to find consensus on them. An SF Chronicle recap can be found here: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/04/27/MN0E179EAT.DTL&type=politics.
The agenda for the May 6th meeting includes a social services panel that takes a look at how the economy is impacting the need for social services in the North Bay. Panelists include Norman Solomon, founder of Health Care Not Warfare, and Nancy Masters, Marin Director of Jewish Family and Children's Services.
Other items for discussion and consideration include:
SB 810 (Leno) Single payer health care
AB 1359 (Huffman) Housing death row inmates at state prisons other than San Quentin
SB 704 (Denham and Huffman) Defunds the new Death Row at San Quentin
The meeting is at 7pm at 575 Sir Francis Drake Blvd in Greenbrae at the Tamalpais Bank. Your participation is welcome. Our June 3rd meeting will be in Sonoma County!
